Every Step Towards Karbala – A journey of Light and Forgiveness
Introduction
Karbala — a land where the dust carries the fragrance of prostrations, where tears become tickets to Paradise and where hearts beat in sync with the name of Hussain (A.S). It is not merely a historical place; it is a spiritual sanctuary that rekindles the faith of every believer.Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (A.S) said:Allah has appointed 70,000 angels at the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S), who, covered in dust and sorrow continuously weep at his grave until the Day of Judgment. Each of these 70,000 angels offers prayers near the sacred grave of Imam Hussain (A.S), and the reward of each angel’s prayer is equal to the prayers of one thousand human beings. The reward and merit of these prayers are gifted to the visitors (Zā’ir) of Imam Hussain (A.S)
Gohar e Hikmat(Ziyarat e Imam Hussain a.s edition)

Whoever performs the pilgrimage (Ziyarat) to the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S) on foot, for every step he takes while lifting and placing his feet, he is granted the reward of freeing one slave — and not just any slave but one from the descendants of Prophet Isma’il (A.S). In another narration, it is mentioned For every drop of sweat that appears on the body of a pilgrim (Za’ir) of Imam Hussain (A.S) while walking with the intention of Ziyarat, Allah creates 70,000 angels from that drop. These angels continuously engage in glorification and praise of Allah and seek forgiveness for that pilgrim until the Day of Judgment.

Marhoom Allama Noori narrates:One day, I was sitting in the sacred lower courtyard of the mosque in Karbala during a religious lecture delivered by my teacher. Suddenly, a visitor arrived, placed a pouch in front of the gathering, and said:
These are women’s ornaments. You may spend them in any way you see fit.
The teacher asked:
What is the story behind this?
The visitor replied:
I am from a certain city. For business purposes, I had traveled to a city in Russia, where I acquired great wealth. One day, I saw a beautiful girl, and soon I fell deeply in love with her. I approached her family and proposed marriage. They said: ‘We have no objection to this marriage except for one issue — religion. If you convert to Christianity, we will marry her to you.
I left angrily but couldn’t stop thinking about her. My love for her kept increasing day by day. Eventually, I gave up my trade and surrendered to my desires, even if it meant ruin. I thought to myself: ‘Why not just become a Christian? So, I accepted Christianity and married her. But after a few days, the passion faded. The love wasn’t the same and I began to blame myself and deeply regretted my decision. I couldn’t return to my homeland, nor could I remain in this foreign religion. I was trapped and overwhelmed.
I no longer remembered much about Islamic teachings, but I was still connected to Allah through the love ofImam Hussain (A.S). I would sit alone in a corner for days, weeping while remembering his tragedies.
My wife noticed this and asked why I was always crying. Trusting Allah, I finally told her the truth — that I was still a Muslim at heart and was crying out of my love for Imam Hussain (A.S). As soon as she heard the name of Imam Hussain (A.S), a light of faith entered her heart. The darkness of disbelief vanished, and she accepted Islam. We then firmly decided to secretly collect our belongings and leave for Karbala. We wanted to announce our conversion to Islam at the sacred grave of Imam Hussain (A.S)) and spend the rest of our lives there.
But sadly, my wife fell ill and passed away. Her Christian relatives took her body, gave her Christian funeral rites, and buried her along with her jewelry. My grief and sorrow multiplied. I made a firm decision: once night fell, I would exhume her body and take
her to Karbala for burial. That night, I opened her grave — only to find the body of an old, bearded man with a large mustache lying
there. Shocked and confused, I returned home devastated. In that state of despair, I saw someone in my dream telling me:
‘Do not grieve! The angels have moved your wife’s body to Karbala. She has been buried in the sacred
courtyard near the blue-tiled minaret on the women’s side. And the man whose body you saw in her place was
an accursed one, and he was moved there instead.Filled with joy, I immediately left for Karbala.Allah blessed me with the opportunity to visit the shrine ofImam Hussain (A.S)*. I asked the caretakers of the holy courtyard,Who was buried near the minaret on that day?
They replied:
A certain wicked man from the Bedouin tribe was buried here.’
I then told them my story. They dug up the grave, and when I looked inside, I saw my wife lying there just as she had been buried in her hometown. I took off her jewelry and now present it here to you.”
Ustad Marhoom Behbahani accepted the jewelry and distributed it among the poor of Karbala.

1. When the Zā’ir makes the intention for Ziyarat:The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) calls out to the pilgrim,”O the one coming by the command of Allah! Rejoice, for you will be with me in Paradise.”
Imam Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen Ali (A.S) also addresses him, saying,”I guarantee to fulfill your needs and to protect you from the calamities of this world and the Hereafter.”These two great personalities (the Prophet and Imam Ali A.S) remain on the right and left side of the Zā’ir,accompanying him until he safely returns to his family.
2. When the Zā’ir spends money for the journey of Ziyarat:It is narrated that,”For every dirham he spends, he is rewarded as if he spent treasures equal to Mount Uhud in the way of Allah. Moreover, for the amount he spends on Ziyarat, Allah increases his sustenance many times over in this world and removes the hardships and calamities written in his destiny.”
3. When the Zā’ir steps out of his house for Ziyarat:Imam Jafar Sadiq (A.S) says:”The moment the Zā’ir steps out with the intention of Ziyarat, 700 angels surround him from all directions—right, left, front, and back—and accompany him. Everything along the path prays for him and his success.”
4. When the sun shines upon the head of the Zā’ir:His sins are burnt away just as fire consumes dry wood—leaving no sin behind.”
