Iraq Mandates Medical Insurance for Pilgrims, Adds to Visa Fees
The Iraqi government has made medical insurance mandatory for all pilgrims visiting the country, ensuring financial protection for travelers in case of medical emergencies, accidents, or unexpected incidents. This insurance must be obtained from designated Iraqi insurance companies at the time of visa issuance and will be integrated into the visa cost.
Mandatory Medical Insurance Details
As per the new rule, all pilgrims applying for an e-visa or visa on arrival will be required to pay an additional $40 to $50 for the mandatory medical insurance policy. This policy will provide coverage for medical expenses, hospitalization, accidents, and even compensation in case of accidental or natural death during their stay in Iraq.
The insurance coverage includes:
Up to 15 million IQD ($10,000) for accidental death or disability.
Up to 10 million IQD ($6,600) for hospitalization and medical expenses due to emergencies.
Dental care coverage up to 150,000 IQD ($100) in case of an accident.
Repatriation of remains in case of death, with a maximum coverage of 3 million IQD ($2,000).
Quarantine expenses for up to 14 days, covered up to 3 million IQD ($2,000).
Up to 750,000 IQD ($500) for outpatient medical visits, lab tests, and prescribed medications.
Implementation & Regulations
The policy is issued by Al-Hamraa Insurance Company, and Integrated Care Company will manage medical expenses through a network of approved healthcare providers in Iraq. Pilgrims will receive a digital insurance card, which must be presented at hospitals or clinics when seeking medical treatment.
Additionally, the Iraqi Ministry of Health mandates HIV testing for all foreign visitors, expatriates, and residents, which must be conducted at designated Iraqi medical centers.
The new medical insurance policy aims to enhance the safety of pilgrims and reduce financial burdens during their stay. Pilgrims are advised to check with their visa processing authorities to ensure compliance with the updated requirements.
