Her life is a testament to unwavering faith, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Early Life and Lineage
Lady Zainab (s.a) was born in Medina on the 1st of Shaban, 5 AH (626 CE). She was the third child of Imam Ali (a.s) and Sayyida Fatima (s.a), and the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). Her name, “Zainab,” meaning “adornment of her father,” was chosen by the Prophet (s.a.w) himself. From a young age, she was immersed in the teachings of Islam and the values of justice, patience, and sacrifice.
Role in Karbala
Lady Zainab (s.a) is most renowned for her role in the event of Karbala. After the martyrdom of her brother, Imam Hussain (a.s), and his companions, she took on the responsibility of protecting the women and children of the Prophet’s household. Her eloquent sermons in the courts of Kufa and Damascus exposed the tyranny of Yazid and awakened the conscience of the people.
