Spiritual Benefits of ziyarat on the Night and Day of Ashura
Introduction
It is mentioned in the supplications (Munajaat) of Prophet Musa (A.S) that he once asked Allah: “O Lord, why have You given the Ummah of Muhammad (PBUH) superiority over all other nations?”
Allah replied: “Because of ten special qualities.”
Prophet Musa (A.S) asked,
“O my Lord, what are those ten qualities? Inform me, so that I may command the Children of Israel to act upon them as well.”
Allah said:
“Prayer (Salat), Fasting (Sawm), Hajj, Zakat, Friday (Jumu’ah), Congregational Prayers (Jama’at), Recitation of the Qur’an, Seeking Knowledge (Ilm), and Ashura.”
Prophet Musa (A.S) then asked,
“O Lord, what is Ashura?”
Allah replied: “O Musa, it is the mourning and weeping over the calamities faced by the son of Muhammad (Imam Hussain A.S).”
Then Allah continued:
There will be no one in this world who weeps and mourns for the son of Muhammad (A.S) except that Paradise becomes obligatory for them.
There will be no person who spends even a portion of their wealth out of love for Muhammad (PBUH) whether it be on food or any other cause except that I will multiply every single dirham into seventy, and by My grace and mercy, admit them into Paradise and forgive their sins. By My Honor and Glory, there will be no man or woman who sheds even a single tear for Hussain (A.S) on the Day of Ashura or any other day, except that I will record for them the reward of one hundred martyrs.”
Sardar E Karbala
The Day of Ashura holds a deeply emotional and spiritual place in Islamic history. It commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), who stood firm against oppression and falsehood in the plains of Karbala. Along with his devoted companions, he laid down his life to uphold the values of justice, truth, and the essence of Islam. It is a journey of the heart, a moment of deep reflection and connection with the mission of Karbala. According to the sayings of the Ahlul-Bayt (A.S), those who visit Imam Hussain (A.S) on Ashura are granted forgiveness of sins, acceptance of prayers, and closeness to Allah (SWT). A pilgrim who visits Imam Hussain (A.S.) on the Day of Ashura witnesses the tragedy as if it is unfolding before their very eyes, as though they are present on the plains of Karbala themselves.

The pilgrim, whether physically at Karbala or spiritually connected through Ziyarat from afar, becomes part of Imam Hussain’s (A.S) divine movement, drawing light, strength, and tranquility from this blessed encounter.
The Importance of Ziyarat-e-Ashura
Ziyarat-e-Ashura is not just a supplication it is a powerful spiritual declaration of love, loyalty, and resistance. It holds a special place in the teachings of the Ahlul-Bayt (A.S) and is especially recommended to be recited on the night and day of Ashura. Narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (A.S) and Imam Ja’far Sadiq (A.S), this Ziyarat serves as a spiritual manifesto for those who wish to align their hearts with the mission of Imam Hussain (A.S). More than a devotional act, Ziyarat-e-Ashura is a reflection of the soul’s stance: love for the followers of truth and disassociation from the enemies of righteousness. Through this Ziyarat, a believer connects deeply with the divine stand of Imam Hussain (A.S) in Karbala and reaffirms their personal allegiance to his cause.
One of the most profound benefits of this Ziyarat is its spiritual elevation. The traditions state that whoever recites Ziyarat-e-Ashura with sincerity, especially on the day of Ashura, receives immense blessings.
Imam Ja’far Sadiq (A.S) said:
“Whoever visits Imam Hussain (A.S) on the Day of Ashura, it is as if he has visited Allah Himself, and his sins
are forgiven as though he were just born.” Whoever visits the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S) on the Day of Ashura, recognizing the Imam’s rightful status, it is as if he has visited Allah upon His Throne.
Gohar e Hikmat(ziyarat edition)
Ziyarat-e-Ashura brings both worldly and eternal rewards. In this world, it purifies the heart, sharpens intentions, and brings peace to the soul. In the hereafter, it serves as a means of intercession and salvation. This Ziyarat empowers the believer to stand against injustice, to live by the values of Imam Hussain (A.S), and to embrace his divine message of truth and sacrifice. That is the true significance of Ziyarat-e-Ashura a spiritual awakening, a call to steadfastness, and a path to divine nearness. Forgiveness of Sins
This narration is attributed to Sayyid Ali Hussaini, who said:
> “On the day of Ashura in the holy city of Mashhad, one of my friends was reading a book describing the tragedy of Karbala. He reached a hadith in which Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (A.S) said:
‘Whoever sheds a tear for the sorrow of Imam Hussain (A.S), even if it is as small as the wing of a fly, Allah will forgive all of his sins, even if they are as much as the foam of the sea.’
In the gathering, one man objected to the hadith and said, “This doesn’t make sense to me intellectually,” and an argument followed. After the discussion, everyone left and went their way. That night, the man who denied the hadith had a dream. He saw the Day of Judgment had arrived. People were standing on a scorching plain, desperate and searching for water. Despite searching everywhere, he could not find any. Eventually, he came across a large and pure pool filled with ice-cold water. Standing near the pool were two men and a woman dressed in black.
He asked, “Who are these people?” The reply came:
“They are the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), )Imam Ali (A.S, and Lady Fatimah (S.A).”
He asked, “Why are they dressed in black and so sorrowful?”
He was told, *“Today is the Day of Ashura, and they are mourning.”
He approached Lady Fatimah (S.A) and requested water. She looked at him with anger and said:
> You are the one who denied the virtue of weeping over my beloved son Hussain (A.S)? He was unjustly slaughtered with cruelty and enmity. May Allah curse those who killed him, oppressed him, and denied him water.” At that moment, he woke up, disturbed and regretful. He repented sincerely to Allah for his denial.
