Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.), the Seal of Divine Guidance and the twelfth Imam, shares the blessed name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He is known by many revered titles such as Imam al-Muntazar (The
Awaited Imam), Hujjatullah (The Proof of Allah), Sahib al-Amr (The Master of the Command), Sahib al-Zaman (The Lord of the Age), and Qa’im Aale Muhammad (The One Who Will Rise from the Progeny of Muhammad).

🧬 His Noble Lineage

Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is the son of Imam Hasan al-Askari (A.S.), and his blessed lineage traces back directly to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through Lady Fatimah (S.A.) and Imam Ali (A.S.). His paternal genealogy is:

Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) bin Hasan bin Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Musa bin Ja’far bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn bin Ali (A.S.) and Fatimah (S.A.), the daughter of the Prophet (PBUH).

From his mother’s side, his lineage goes back to Sham’un al-Safa (Simon Peter), one of the disciples and successors (Hawariyyin) of Prophet Isa (Jesus, A.S.). His revered mother was Lady Narjis, a noble woman of divine status and spiritual excellence.

🌅 A Blessed Birth in the Holy City of Samarra

The birth of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) took place in Samarra on the 15th of Sha’ban, 255 AH, during the time of early dawn on a Friday. His blessed birth was enveloped in divine mystery and hidden from the eyes of tyrants, as decreed by the will of Allah.

🕊 Beginning of His Imamate and the Era of Occultation

The sacred Imamate of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) began at the young age of five, on the 9th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, 260 AH, following the martyrdom of his father, Imam Hasan al-Askari (A.S.). Since that time, Imam Mahdi’s Imamate continues uninterrupted a divine trust that remains until the day Allah permits hi reappearance.

The duration of his life and his occultation (Ghaybat) are known only to Allah. His mission, however, is crystal clear: to complete the work of all previous Prophets and Imams and to establish true justice on Earth.

📜 The Prophecy of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) foretold the coming of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) in numerous traditions. One of the most profound narrations is:

Even if the entire duration of the world’s existence has already been exhausted and only one day is left before the Day of Judgment, Allah will prolong that day until He sends a man from my progeny, whose name will be the same as mine. He will fill the earth with justice and equity just as it was filled with oppression and tyranny.

🕰 The Era of Minor Occultation (260–329 AH): The Hidden Imam and His Deputies

The period from 260 AH to 329 AH marks the era known as Ghaybat-e-Sughra (Minor Occultation). During this phase, although Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) was hidden from the public eye, he maintained contact with his followers through four trusted deputies, also known as Safirs or special representatives. Uthman ibn Sa’id

Muhammad ibn Uthman

Husayn ibn Ruh al-Nawbakhti

With the demise of the fourth deputy Ali ibn Muhammad al-Samari in 329 AH, the period of Ghaybat-e-Kubra (Major Occultation) began — and continues to this day. Since then, Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) no longer appoints specific individuals as his direct representatives. However, the system of general representation continues through qualified scholars and jurists (Mujtahids), who fulfill the conditions of religious authority (Wilayat al-Faqih).

The occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is a divine test — a period of trial and purification for the faithful, and a temporary reprieve for the oppressors and hypocrites. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) had foretold that Imam Mahdi would one day rise to end tyranny and establish universal justice. In fear of this divine promise, the tyrannical rulers of the time made every attempt to prevent his birth, much like Pharaoh tried to stop the birth of Prophet Musa (A.S.).

But divine will always prevails. Just as Allah protected Prophet Musa (A.S.), He safeguarded the birth of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.), despite the efforts of oppressive regimes.

🌐 Imam Mahdi’s Presence Despite Occultation

Though Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is hidden from human eyes, the world is never hidden from his sight*. His sacred presence continues to witness, guide, and oversee the affairs of the universe. Like his forefathers, the Imam remains a divine witness over the deeds of mankind, enforcing Allah’s will, guiding sincere souls, and fulfilling his duties as the spiritual leader of this age even from behind the veil of occultation.

🌟 The Obligation of Knowing the Imam of Our Time

Recognizing and believing in Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is not merely a virtue — it is an obligation upon every Muslim. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) firmly stated:

Whoever dies without recognizing the Imam of his time dies the death of ignorance (Jahiliyyah).

This Hadith emphasizes that ma’rifah (recognition) of Imam Mahdi is an essential part of faith. His existence is not a myth or symbol he is a living, divinely guided leader who continues to play an active role in the spiritual governance of the world.

📚 Acknowledgment of Imam Mahdi’s Existence and Occultation by Renowned Scholars

The belief in the existence and occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is not confined to Shia scholars alone many respected Sunni scholars and historians have also testified to his birth and Ghaybat. Among those who acknowledged his reality are:

1.Definite (Ḥatmi) Signs – Those that must occur before the Zuhur.
2.Indefinite Signs – Those that may happen and serve as warnings or reminders.

1.👹 The Emergence of the Dajjal (Antichrist)

This may refer to a single deceptive individual or a manipulative global system built on oppression and illusion one that has imprisoned the world through advanced technologies and falsehoods.

2. 📣 The Heavenly Call (Nidaa-e-Samawi)

Mysterious voices will be heard from the sky in Rajab, Ramadan, and at the time of Zuhur. These divine proclamations will publicly announce the arrival of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.), and will shake the hearts of both believers and deniers.

3. 🛡 The Uprising of Sufyani,

Sufyani, whose real name will be Uthman ibn Anbah, will establish his control over Damascus, Homs, Palestine, Jordan, and Qinnasrin. His forces will commit mass killings in Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, and Medina. One of his armies will be defeated by the army of Imam Mahdi, while another a 300,000 strong force heading toward Makkah will be swallowed by the earth. Eventually, the Imam’s forces will annihilate Sufyani’s army in Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).

4. 🩸 The Martyrdom of Nafs-e-Zakiyyah (The Pure Soul)

A noble descendant of the Prophet (PBUH), known for his piety and purity, will be martyred near the Kaaba, between Rukn and Maqam. His tragic death will immediately precede the reappearance of

A descendant of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (A.S.), Sayyid Hassani will rise from the regions of Daylam and Qazvin, calling people to support the truth of Imam Mahdi. Upon hearing of Imam Mahdi’s appearance, Sayyid Hassani will approach him, verify his identity through divine proofs, and then pledge allegiance to him

6. 🌞🌚 Solar and Lunar Eclipses in Ramadan

Unusual celestial events will occur in the month of Ramadan a solar eclipse in the middle of the month and a lunar eclipse at its end, which by normal astronomy is highly improbable. These signs will further affirm the divine timing of the reappearance.

7. 🌌 Appearance of a Hand in the Sky

A miraculous sign will manifest in the sky near the sun — a hand or a distinct shape, seen by people across the world, will act as a divine symbol of the impending Zuhur of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.).

🌩 Non-Definite Signs Before the Reappearance of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.)

In addition to the major, definite signs of the reappearance, several non-definite signs have been narrated in Islamic traditions. These signs may or may not occur exactly as described, but they act as warnings and spiritual indicators that the world is nearing the time of divine justice.

🕌 The Collapse and Reconstruction of Masjid Kufa

One of the signs will be the destruction of a wall of Masjid Kufa, followed by its rebuilding and spiritual revival. Kufa, which will face devastation, will once again rise as a center of Islamic leadership and knowledge in the time of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.).

🌊 Water Flowing in the Desert of Najaf,

A miraculous stream of water will begin flowing through the dry lands of Najaf, a clear sign of divine transformation and preparation for the Imam’s reappearance.

🌍 Global Natural Disasters and Calamities

The earth will be struck with intense natural disasters:
Widespread droughts and famine
Frequent and severe earthquakes
Epidemics and strange diseases
Unstoppable bloodshed and violence

These afflictions will serve as both a trial for humanity and a wake up call for the believers.

🏛 Gold Embellishments in Mosques and Tall Minarets

Places of worship will become centers of worldly display, with gold-plated decorations and soaring minarets, highlighting the spiritual decline of society and the dominance of materialism over true faith.

👁 The Mysterious Eye in the East

A strange “eye-like” sign will appear in the eastern skies, visible for three or seven days. Its continuous presence will stir fear, awe, and speculation across the globe signaling that the unseen forces are beginning to unfold divine prophecy.

🌌 Redness Covering the Skies

The entire sky will be blanketed with a deep red hue, an abnormal atmospheric event that will terrify people and signify the shifting of divine decrees on Earth.

⚔️ Massacre in Kufa

Kufa will witness chaotic bloodshed and lawlessness, further emphasizing the collapse of moral order before the rise of the just savior.

🏴 The Emergence of Black Flags from Khorasan

From Khorasan (present-day Iran/Afghanistan region), black flags will emerge symbolizing a revolutionary movement that will eventually pave the way for the Imam’s arrival.

☔ Unprecedented Rains in Jumadi al-Thani and Rajab

The months of Jumada al-Thani and Rajab will experience extraordinary rainfall, disrupting normal life and symbolizing the heavenly changes that precede divine intervention.

🌐 Universal Corruption and Immorality

The world will be engulfed in injustice, oppression, corruption, and moral degradation. Falsehood will dominate, and righteousness will be rare preparing the grounds for the arrival of the divinely guided Imam who will restore peace, justice, and divine order.

🤲 Our Responsibilities During the Occultation (Ghaybat) of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.)

The period of Ghaybat (occultation) is not a time of passiveness or neglect rather, it is a time of trial, selfpurification, and preparation. Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is alive, watching over the affairs of the Ummah from behind the veil of Ghaybat. It is our religious and spiritual duty to remain connected to him, even if we cannot see him.

Below are the key responsibilities of the true followers during this sacred period:

🛡 1. Strengthen Your Belief in the Imam’s Existence

The first and most essential duty is to have firm belief in the existence and leadership of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.). The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has said:

Whoever dies without recognizing the Imam of their time dies the death of ignorance (Jahiliyyah). This means our faith remains incomplete without acknowledging and connecting to the Imam of our age.

📚 2. Seek Knowledge and Spread Awareness

Educate yourself and others about the life, mission, and signs of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.). Reading authentic books, attending religious gatherings, and discussing his teachings helps keep his memory alive in the hearts of the believers.

🧭 3. Follow the Path of Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) in Practice

In the Imam’s absence, our best guidance is the Qur’an and the teachings of the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.). Striving to live a life of justice, piety, honesty, and compassion is essential to proving our loyalty to him.

🕋 4. Obey the Marja’ and Religious Authorities

Since Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) has not appointed specific deputies during the Ghaybat al-Kubra (Major Occultation), we are advised to follow the learned jurists (Maraji’) who fulfill the conditions of knowledge, justice, and leadership.

Refer to those who narrate our traditions; indeed, they are my proof over you, and I am Allah’s proof over them.

Be prepared, for when he comes, there will be no time left to prepare.

There is nothing more humiliating for Shaytan than Salah (Namaz). So, perform your prayers and rub Shaytan’s nose in the dust

Prayer is not just an obligation it is a spiritual shield and a means of defeating evil temptations. A person who clings to Salah stays under divine protection and remains aligned with the path of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.).

👁 The Imam Sees Us, Even When We Forget Him

During the period of occultation, many believers become heedless of the Imam, but he is never heedless of us. He continues to watch over his followers with mercy, guidance, and divine supervision.

Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) has himself said:

Your news reaches us regularly, and nothing about you is hidden from us.

This reflects his intimate spiritual connection with his followers. Many unseen protections and blessings we enjoy are due to the Imam’s constant intercession and guardianship — even in Ghaybat.

⏳ The Time of Reappearance Is with Allah Alone

One of the core beliefs about the return of Imam Mahdi (A.J.T.F.) is that its exact time is known only to Allah. The Imam (A.J.T.F.) firmly warns:

Those who fix the time for my reappearance are liars.

My existence during Ghaybat is like the sun hidden behind clouds — though hidden from the eyes, it still

Pray abundantly for my reappearance, for indeed, that is your ultimate relief (faraj).
