The Divine Honor of Visiting Imam Hussain (A.S.)

Visiting Imam Hussain (A.S.) in Karbala is not just a journey it is a spiritual transformation. It is an act so beloved to Allah (SWT) that He grants a special status to those who embark on this sacred pilgrimage. From the moment a person intends to visit, to their arrival at the shrine, and even after their return, divine mercy, angels, and spiritual blessings surround them.

If Allah bestows such immense honor upon the Zuwar (pilgrims) of Imam Hussain (A.S.), it means that this Ziyarah is among the most beloved acts in His eyes. Let us reflect on the heavenly protocol prepared for these fortunate souls.

1. Angels Are Sent to Accompany the Pilgrim

When a believer makes the intention to visit Imam Hussain (A.S.), seven hundred angels are immediately assigned by Allah to accompany them throughout the journey. These angels surround the pilgrim from all directions—above, below, right, left, front, and behind—protecting them and praying for their forgiveness.

Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (A.S.) said:

“When a person sets out for the Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (A.S.), Allah sends seven hundred angels to accompany them. These angels continue to seek forgiveness for the pilgrim until they return home. When they complete the Ziyarah, an announcer proclaims, ‘You have been forgiven, so continue with good deeds.’”

(Kamil al-Ziyarat, pg. 194)

These angels do not leave the pilgrim even after they return home. They visit them daily until their death, and on their behalf, they perform the Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (A.S.) in Karbala.

Imagine this honor—Allah assigns celestial beings to walk alongside you, protect you, and continue to bless you even after your journey ends. This alone shows how much Allah loves the Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (A.S.).

2. Angels Descend to Welcome the Pilgrim in Karbala

Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (A.S.) said:

“There is no angel in the heavens or the earth who does not seek permission from Allah to visit the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S.). A group descends (to Karbala), and another ascends (back to the heavens).”

(Kamil al-Ziyarat, pg. 192)

This means that at every moment, angels are arriving in Karbala, offering their salutations to Imam Hussain (A.S.), and praying for the pilgrims present there.

Additionally, seventy thousand angels descend upon Karbala every day, praying for Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his visitors.

Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.) said:

“Allah has created seventy thousand angels who circle the Holy Kaaba day and night. At dawn, they go to the grave of the Prophet (S) to offer their salutations, then they proceed to the grave of Amir al-Mu’minin (A.S.), and at noon, they descend upon the grave of Imam Hussain (A.S.) to salute him. Before sunset, they ascend back to the heavens.”

(Kamil al-Ziyarat, pg. 193)

When a pilgrim enters Karbala, they are stepping into a land where angels are constantly descending and ascending, where divine mercy pours down, and where every step they take is a step toward paradise.

3. Angels Mourn With the Pilgrims

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said:

“There are four thousand angels with disheveled hair and covered in dust, mourning at the grave of Hussain (A.S.), and they will remain there until the Day of Judgment.”

(Kamil al-Ziyarat, pg. 194)

These angels have been weeping for centuries, awaiting the day when Allah will grant justice to Imam Hussain (A.S.). When a pilgrim joins this sacred mourning, they become part of the divine grief that has been carried through the heavens and the earth.

4. Hazrat Abbas (A.S.) Receives the Pilgrims

While the angels provide a celestial reception, Hazrat Abbas (A.S.), the beloved brother of Imam Hussain (A.S.), is said to spiritually welcome every pilgrim entering Karbala.

Hazrat Abbas (A.S.) was the standard-bearer of Labbayk Ya Hussain! in Karbala, and even today, his spirit stands at the gates of Karbala, receiving the Zuwar as honored guests. Many believers report feeling an overwhelming sense of peace and honor upon entering Karbala, as if being received by the Babul Hawaij (The Door to Needs), Hazrat Abbas (A.S.).

Why Does Allah Give Such Honor to the Pilgrims?

This heavenly protocol for the pilgrims of Imam Hussain (A.S.) makes one thing very clear:

Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (A.S.) is among the most beloved actions to Allah.

If it were not so, why would Allah:

Send angels to accompany the pilgrim?

Assign seventy thousand angels daily to pray for the pilgrims?

Keep four thousand angels mourning at Karbala until Qiyamah?

Send an announcer to declare the pilgrim’s forgiveness?

Allow the angels to continue performing Ziyarah on behalf of the pilgrim even after they return home?

The answer is simple: Allah loves those who love Hussain (A.S.).

A Call to Every Believer

If Allah grants this status to the pilgrims of Imam Hussain (A.S.), then what are we waiting for?

This is not just a journey—it is an invitation from Allah.

Every step you take towards Karbala is a step towards divine mercy. Every tear you shed at the shrine is a tear witnessed by the angels. Every moment you stand before Imam Hussain (A.S.) is a moment that will be recorded on the Day of Judgment.

The doors of Karbala are open. The angels are waiting. The call of “Hal Min Nasir” (Is there anyone to help?) is still echoing.

Will you answer the call
May Allah grant us all the honor of visiting Imam Hussain (A.S.) and being among those whom the angels accompany, the heavens welcome, and the Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) embrace with love.

Labbaik Ya Hussain!
